Since 1993
Since 1993 I have been active as an academically qualified, technical translator and copy editor for a large number of clients in the fields of information technology and electrical and mechanical engineering.
Technical Translation
My professional activities are based on sound knowledge of electrical and mechanical engineering, information technology, English and French, gained through the course of studies at the University of Hildesheim in Germany which I successfully completed with graduation in February 1993.
Technical Authoring
In 1993 I took a further study course at the University of Hildesheim to qualify as technical author. This provided me with the stylistic means and expertise for authoring and translating user-friendly handbooks and operating instructions. The knowledge I gained in this area provides my work with an added quality element.
Software Localization
By way of a one-year period of employment in 1994 with one of England's leading software translation companies, Alpha CRC of Cambridge in England, I gained extensive experience in software localization. Constant practical contact with this subject area, regular attendance of seminars as well as on-the-spot assignments with companies such as International Communications Inc. (Boston), Autodesk Development B.V. (Neuchâtel), Hightech Passport Ltd. (San Jose), texto. communication multilingue (Marseille) have enabled me to remain up-to-date on the newest developments in this field while gaining competence in the use of key tools such as Trados Workbench, Multiterm and FrameMaker among others.
Quality Assurance
As a freelance staff translator for two years with ComuniCa, a highly respected translation company based in Hanover/Germany and certified to ISO 9002, I was responsible for the quality control of all completed translations from English and French into German. Besides checking terminology, this also involved comprehensive stylistic editing.
Certification
As a sworn translator on the register of the Hanover Regional Court since 1993 I am entitled to certify translations in English, French and German.
International Experience
Since 1993 I have been gathering work experience in Germany, Switzerland, France, England and the United States.
Equipment
I work with state-of-the-art hardware and software, and constantly update my reference resources.
